Little Pentire is part of a conversion of farm buildings and comprises the old carriage house, stables and hayloft. It was converted around 1995 to a high standard and has retained much of its original character by the use of local stone, slate and beams. Needless to say, my parents knew the family who had farmed there until recently and we passed a very pleasant morning in the cottage with the the lady who was born in the farmhouse, looking at old photographs.
The cottage is the largest of 4 cottages which together with 2 larger
houses make up what was Higher Pentire Farm. The aerial view was taken in the
Our cottage was a barn as seen in this photograph of haymakers resting .
It is a small , secluded settlement just a mile from Helston and surrounded by National Trust land, just above Loe Pool and Loe Bar, a natural lagoon and sand bar. It is a wonderful place to " get away from it all " and ideally placed for visits to all of south Cornwall.
The Lizard is renowned internationally as a place of environmental and cultural importance. It is beautiful in all seasons, with its splendid gardens in spring, glorious beaches in summer, wonderful sunsets and hedgerows in autumn and pounding waves against the cliffs in winter.
Just some of the places within easy reach are :-
These are just some of the tourist attractions but the villages, coves,
beaches and moors are unique and it is the people who make Cornwall what it
There is a file in the cottage with various leaflets, maps etc of all places to visit. Please feel free to add to it & update it.
From the A30 into Cornwall it is best to take the A39 to Truro, follow the
ring-road around the City, follow the A39 to Falmouth, and then A394 to Helston.
Some of this road is dual-carriageway but some of it is very winding so watch
for sharp corners. Once in Helston, follow signs for " Flambards Theme Park
" and " The Lizard " until you have passed Tesco's on your left and you come
to the second roundabout. Turn right towards " Town Centre ". If you pass Culdrose
Air Station on your left, you have gone too far.
Degibna Lane is about 100yards on the left, just past the Hospital. (if you pass Nanseloe Manor Hotel on your left you have gone too far). Again, this lane is very winding. Follow the lane for 1 mile, past what looks like a large golf ball on your left, until you reach a Chapel on the left and a NT car park on the right. TURN LEFT at the Chapel through a gateway marked " Higher Pentire " . Go down the bumpy lane for 200yards and you will see the cottages on your right with the courtyard which may be used for unloading. Little Pentire is the left door in the corner.
